It is a 2007 Academy Award-nominated film, directed by Marc Forster based on the worldwide best-selling novel, by Afghan-American Khaled Hosseini.

Basically, the story is a heart-wrenching tale of friendship, father-son relationship, devastating mistakes, and redeeming love. It begins in Kabul. Following the Russians invasion of Afghanistan where refugees escape to Pakistan and later to America, and also the life under the Taliban regime.

This is a powerfully emotional film with terrific performances and definitely well worth seeing (Thanks to AMBP for the special screening tickets). If you love the book, you'll like the movie. If you haven't read the book, you might love it.

However, there are disturbing scenes that some may find it very offensive. A boy is bullied for his Hazara ethnicity and sodomized (which contains no nudity) by a future Taliban fighter. An adulterous woman is stoned to death in front of crowds. Despite this, the film has a PG-13 rating. I have no further comments here as people may come and cut my throat especially on the religious fundamentalism part.

On the Net:

Afghanistan government has banned the film from movie theaters and DVD shops because of the rape scene and the ethnic tensions that the film highlights.

Kite Runner flies into controversy.

The Kite Runner's young actors leave Afghanistan due to safety concerns.

Hi Monica, I guess I'll take a pass re these films with disturbing parts.
Infact nowadays I stopped watching CNN news as too much on the war and sadness there.
As for movies, I prefer 'Lonely Planet' or adventure stories...strictly for relaxation.
Never like movies that make me think and then hard to sleep later, ha ha.
Here the moves are not censored and practically everything goes, *wink* with explicit scenes too.
Oh well, seen one seen all, prefer go to my blog read your postings, ha ha.
Stay easy Monica and have a nice day, Lee.

Hi! I often fell asleep during movies (at home). LOL..I prefer books or movies that are based on the real-life stories. ;-)

Anyway, have a nice day U.Lee!

I agree this is a must read! I think I'm going to get the book too. It's ONE of the best movies I've ever seen.
