Today, as we all know by now, major tsunami hit Japan after massive quake and left such a disastrous sight. Even for a country used to earthquakes, this one was of horrific proportions because of the tsunami that crashed ashore, swallowing everything in its path as it surged several miles (kilometers) inland before retreating.
As I sat in front of my TV and watched the umpteenth images and reports from Japan, I thought of my country. I could not imagine what would happen if this would have really happened here in Malaysia.
Below is a collection of the most compelling images of the aftermath of one of Japan's largest recorded earthquakes from The Globe and Mail.
#1 Residents walk through the rubles of residents collapsed by a powerful earthquake in Iwaki, Fukushima prefecture, Japan.
#2 A massive tsunami sweeps in to engulf a residential area after a powerful earthquake in Natori.
#3 People at a book store react as the store's ceiling falls in Sendai, northern Japan.
#4 Sendai Airport is swept by a tsunami after an earthquake, in northeastern Japan.
#5 A massive tsunami hits the coastal areas of Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan.
#6 Buildings burn after an earthquake near Sendai Airport, northeastern Japan.
#7 Houses swept by a tsunami smoulder near Sendai Airport in Japan.
#8 Cars and airplanes swept by a tsunami are pictured among debris at Sendai Airport, northeastern Japan.
#9 A road is blocked by a landslide near Iwaki City in northeastern Japan.
#10 Houses are swept by water following a tsunami and earthquake in Natori City.
#11 Natural gas storage tanks burn at a facility in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo.
#12 An office building burns in Tokyo after an earthquake.
#13 A truck remains stranded on a road damaged by a powerful earthquake in Iwaki city, Fukushima prefecture (state), Japan.
#14 Vehicles are crushed by a collapsed wall at a carpark in Mito city in Ibaraki prefecture on March 11, 2011 after a massive earthquake rocked Japan.
When I see things like that, I get a very different perspective on life; I see how short life can be.
So what could we learn from the rubble of this great disaster? We must respect nature and its power over us!
I hope that everyone is praying for the ones left alive...

So much sadness and heart ache here. I feel so bad for Japan. I agree with LJ we need to keep them in our prayers that they will be able to start to road to recovery quick. :( :'(
It is so sad.. I viewed some of the videos on the earthquake and it is horrifying.. I hope we will never experience it here in Malaysia.. My prayers goes out to those involved and hopefully everything will be fine soon.. :-(

i also cant imagine if it happens in our country, n summore sabah n labuan got warning but thank god nothing happened so far. no threat of tsunami. :) :)
oh this is so sad, I cant imagine it could happen in our mother earth..
Looks like there will be many more earthquakes and possibly tsunamis this year based on this year's Bazi (Eight Characters) Chart.
The earthquake in Japan was huge! The waves were higher than some islands so if the tsunami crashed on these islands, everything would be wiped out there!
If this happens in Malaysia, I am sure it will be worse than Japan and we will surely experience more deaths because we are simply not prepared for it unlike Japan.
The images I kept seeing give me goosebumps! I am so horrified at what happened to Japan! I am glad that my Dad is home and not there when this happened, it's funny as he and I were talking about him going back there to work again, but then his Working Visa has not been renewed, what a blessing in disguise!
My dad have friends over in Japan, as he lived there for 8 years and has only gotten back here on a work hiatus since 2003, but he still keeps in contact with them through Facebook, however, after the quake and tsunami hit, he has yet to heard of them personally and he is a bit worried. I hope that they survived!
Oh my gosh! I hope this doesn't happen in the Philippines, because you know, one huge tsunami and the entire Philippines will be engulfed in water, we are surrounded by water so if a really big tsunami hit us, OMG, we'd all be under water, even us on the mountains! So scary!!!
1This incident actually reminded me of the movie 2012. It's so scary! What if we are at the end of days and the world will implode on 2012? What a scary scary thought! =-O =-O
oh y.. is this the sign of the upcoming doomsday?? giving me goosebumps actually..
i felt pity for the victims of this very horrible calamity...
can you imagine that, Japan is well known for their modern inventions and technology... they even have this "earthquake preventor" being installed upon the construction of each houses there and look what happen??
I was shocked to know about this devastating earthquake too as I was in the cinema. :(
This Tsunami showed that no human can stop the wrath of God! :(
My heart and prayers go to all the Japanese. :(
