Two weeks ago, I tried macarons for the first time! The delectable sweet things that everyone has been buzzing about are rounded and smooth; they are crispy and airy on the top but soft and chewy in the middle. However, I found them a tad too sweet for me and not much else.
One is definitely enough.
Only three ingredients go into a macaron: egg white, icing sugar and almond powder - but why are these tiny macarons not cheap? Well, I was told it's labor-intensive and ground almonds are expensive.
The macaron, pronounced mac-a-rohhn (insert French accent) is from France and they are definitely becoming more and more popular. Foodies and food bloggers are already claiming that the age of the cupcake is over and that the French macaron is the new darling of the confectionery world.
Bye bye cupcakes, bonjour macarons?
Oh, by the way, macarons are NOT macaroons!

never tried macaroons before but from the ingredients it sounds very much like meringue... only minus the almond powder..hehe... meringue are easy to make and cheap cheap.. lol!
how much is one going for dearie?
I have tried them before and they are good but like you said one is enough because they are sweet. :*
Hey Mon!!! So you finally tried these macarons, huh? :) Hahahah so what do you think? Too sweet, right? One is enough for me to share with my sister and even that, I don't crave for it either. I wasn't really into the cupcake phase anyways... although I have to admit, the only reason I liked cuppies were because of their designs! LOL!
I love to look at macarons because of their different colors, though. Btw, where did you try your first macaron? According to my friend, who's in the food biz, he said that if one lessens the sugar, you won't be able to obtain the chewiness in the middle. Apparently lah.. i also don't know. never tried making one and I don't think I will anytime soon. Hahahah!
Btw, a chef friend of mine, he said macaroons and macarons are the same.. meaning the base ingredients are the same.. which is ground nuts, egg whites and sugars. it's just that the variations are different depending on the origin.. (i.e. US, France, Italy). But they're still basically one and the same just of different variety.. well that's what I was told.
:-D :-D
Half is enough for me, too sweet for me too.. nothing great right? :-P :-P
Gimme a cupcake any day! :* :* :*
ahhh so macarons is different fro Macaroons???
I've got a sweet tooth here so i'm sure I will enjoy eating it... errr i am not sure if we have that here
happy blogging Mon ;) ;)
love em!
Yeah I'm not a fan either.. I find it to be too sweet and too expensive. I can do them myself so I don't do the filling so sweet.. Macarons is the French specialty but Macaroons is the English one right? :-)
I love macarons. And I think it's the in dessert at the moment.
Is this the same as macaroons....maybe not.....coz macaroons are made of dessicated coconut....I love macaroons...and maybe will try macarons.....it looks yummy.
Oh yes, so many people mistake macaron and macaroons! But I don't like macarons too.. too sweet for me! Although they do look pretty as decoration on cakes! :)
8-) 8-) 8-)

i love them! but... only ONE! lol!! =-X =-X
cz its too sweet la!! hahaha but i definitely prefer macaron than cupcake. :-P :-P
Hello! The food in the picture is so damn nice! How I wish there is food like this in Brunei! =D Yummy!
I have sweet tooth but I don't think I will like them cos they are too sweet!
I don't know but I am not a fan of cupcakes either. I prefer normal cakes! LOL!
In any case, both macarons and cupcakes are sweet and calorie laden - not exactly good for my waistline! LOL!
Yes, it's labour intensive that's why so expensive - but I think it's not worth buying! Rather get myself a crepe cake! Haha!!
