Ralph has a big collection of Disney DVDs and we were surprised to find that we haven't watched Tangled DVD when we went through his DVD collection recently.

I was expecting this animated Rapunzel romance to be just another formulaic rehash of the girl with super long golden hair who is imprisoned in a tower with prince charming coming to the rescue story. You know the story of the timeless fairytale Repunzal. The evil sorceress called Mother Gothel keeps the girl around only because of that golden hair, which has the power to heal wounds, cure sickness and most important for Mother Gothel's purposes, reverse the aging process.

However, I was surprised and impressed with the extra depth of this updated version as issues and acting styles are tailored to current perspectives. Tangled is an action-packed, swashbuckling, animated musical comedy about an imaginative and determined girl - Repunzal (voice of Mandy Moore) behind 70 feet of magical, golden hair who is locked in a hidden tower longing for adventure and takes off on a hilarious, hair-raising escapade with the help of a dashing bandit (voice of Zachary Levi).

It tells a rousing love story that must overcome all manner of obstacles, it features great music and I was most enchanted by those graceful floating lanterns that waft through the deep night sky.

I adore fairy tales, even if Rapunzel was not my favorite. And hey, it was a good way to spend time and snuggle with my beloved in front of the TV!

But I know this story lah, although the updated version must be quite interesting. Well of course they need to cater to modern audiences if not no one will watch it! LOL!

I'm sure you had a good time watching this while snuggling with Ralph ;)

I only saw this like 2 months ago.. :-) I guess we've come a long way from simple fairytales and prince charming saving the damsel in distress times.. it's all about independent young girls who does not need a man to save her from harm.. but i still like the love and the need of each other in the end.. so maybe it isn't so bad.. maybe teaching our kids nowadays that they can be independent so that their freedom won't be suppressed but also reminding them that we all need love, no matter what year we live in.. hehe

anyways, the animations are amazing.. just love it! :-) ;-)

Bluedreamer said... @ 30/6/11 9:48 AM

oh and so far best among all CGI animations.... they usually end up producing... scary like faces which disappoints most of its viewers

Bluedreamer said... @ 30/6/11 9:51 AM

it's like bringing those classic Disney films into a modern and funny approach..

Hi Mon. Happy TGIF.

Yeah, i had the same feeling when rented Tangled DVD. I thought i was going to be like the same old same another fairy tale storyline.

At the end, i think i it s good. Kinda caught me by surprised. Good storyline with good fast past action too.

It reminds me like the old good days such as Beauty and The Beast Disney style.

Owh.. i hope mothers out there wont go out to their daughters and sing "Mother knows best...mothhheerrr knowwwsss best..." tee hee :-P :)
