#1 The Golden Rule Bear symbolizing “Treat others as you would want to be treated”

Despite the exhibition being kicked off in KL on December 8th 2011, I put off going until last weekend (yeah, I'm a slow turtle), and I'm so glad I didn't miss the chance to catch a glimpse of the world famous Buddy Bears at Pavilion shopping mall!

First launched in Berlin, Germany in 2002 with the theme, "The Art of Tolerance," the United Buddy Bears World Tour exhibition also aims to raise funds for needy children worldwide.

Eva and Klaus Herlitz created the "United Buddy Bears" in 2002 and since then, it has traveled to more than 15 countries, and Malaysia is the first Southeast Asian country to be chosen for its tour!

#5 Peru | Philippines | Poland

Standing at 2 meter high with their arms lifted, the bears represent countries recognized by the United Nations. A selected artist from each country paints each Buddy Bear individually and the design represents the country's culture, history, traditions and characteristics but not its political systems.

#6 France

Artist- Bruno di Martino: “I would like to describe my work on the French bear. It is a collage about passion, about life and creativity in France. Parisian buildings such as “Notre Dame“ or the “Arc de Triomphe“ for example represent the architecture of different epochs and cultures; typical design products from Gaultier to Chanel are also strong symbols of France’s connection with beauty.”

#7 Iraq

#8 Artist- Furat al Jamil: “The bear is part of dreams and stories for most children in this world. That is the reason for the dreamlike and story-telling images I have used on the Buddy Bear. The images are taken from the history and the folk-tales of my country to represent the imagination of Iraqi children who escape into their dreams to avoid the cruel reality of their present life. The bear tells stories from Sumer, Assyria, Babylon, 1001 night and the two rivers of Mesopotamia, the Tigris and the Euphrates.”

“If you still can dream there is love in your heart.”

I was very impressed with the artwork of these painted fiberglass bears especially the colorful ones and of course, these super adorable giant Yogi Bear look-alikes had me gawking and stopping to take photographs.

#10 Malaysia!

The Malaysian bear, which was painted by local cartoonist Imuda, is a sunshine yellow sculpture featured elements of the country's main races, culture, flora and fauna as well as famous landmarks of Malaysia.

#12 Sri Lanka | Sudan

#14 South Korea

#16 The Bahamas

Artist- Lynn Parotti: “The Bahamas are an archipelago of 700 islands suspended in the most turquoise of seas where land literally glides into ocean. A seahorse, hummingbird, flamingo and angelfish salute the wonders of our natural habitat as the stingrays gracefully swim by.”

#17 Tunisia

Artist- Adel Megdiche: “The olive twigs and flowers symbolize freedom and the hospitality of my country, while the traditional costume is there to show that the old hand crafted arts are still alive in Tunisia.”

#21 China | Jordan | Cuba | United Kingdom

#25 Moldova

Artist- Valeriu Kurtu: “Moldova's bear tells several satiric stories which happened during the last twenty years. Moldova is a green land, which explains the bear's colouring. In my opinion Moldova has the best red wine; a famous traveller once called it "small Switzerland".”

#26 The Einstein Bear symbolizing “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding”

#27 United States

Well, Ralph wanted to take pictures of me with ALL the bears - mission impossible! First off, there were so many people posing and taking pictures. Secondly, there were 143 bears!!!

the detailing on some of the bears are simply awesome!! i especially liked how the artist created the folds on the liberty bear (usa). looks like it's really wearing a cloth draped on it! :D saw these bears outside pavilion but didn't have the time to take pics. my mom thought they were really creepy .___.
