In most cases or in Malaysia, graffiti is seen as vandalism that has led to the tarnishing of our beautiful cityscape when the artists deface public or private properties.

However, seeing how it's also an artist's show of talent, City Hall had legalized it in a form of a competition, held in conjunction with KUL Sign Festival whereby graffiti artists were given the opportunity to indulge themselves in their creative pursuits and to do it in broad daylight! The objectives was to promote better ties with graffiti artists while popularizing the art form and ensuring public property were maintained properly.

Well, it also gave us Ralph another photo-stop opportunity!

This year, City Hall provided graffiti walls at two venues - next to the Pos Malaysia headquarters (for guests and international artists) and near Central Market (for graffiti artists). The theme of the open category was "Greater KL" and the graffiti styles for the competition were "Character, Production and 3D".

Graffiti reaches out to the people, sometimes very unexpectedly and, for some, it's scary. But the way I see it, is just what's the point of having a bare concrete wall along the banks of the river near Central Market? It's an eyesore! The sad thing is that because of the aspect of vandalism usually associated with graffiti, the art is often quite temporary and can be gone within minutes.

#27 This to me is vandalism!

About time :). I agree on the "vandalism" image and it's hilarious. On second thought if they were to engage graffiti artist like we do, than the so called "vandalism" image could be reduced considerably no?

What a wonderful world 8-)
