#1

(Continuation of this post)

So this was my second trip to Pulau Ketam or literally translated "crab island". First time was in 2007, with Ralph's ex-students from Russia, Japan and China. We all took the KTM Komuter train from KL Sentral to Port Klang (Southport), which we all wanted to try.

This time around, however, my brother drove us up to the jetty at Port Klang.

#5 Then, we hopped onto this air-conditioned ferry to the island.

#6 The fare was RM7 per person for a single trip.

The journey took about 30 minutes and past mangrove swamps.

Once we got down from the ferry, we took a leisurely stroll through the Chinese fishing village that is built completely on stilts over swampland, as my sisters had never been here before; one of the best experiences one can gain from this island is to witness with their own eyes the lifestyles of the fishermen in Selangor. It wasn't super crowded when we were there on a Saturday so it was nice, but it was hot as hell and I was leaking sweat out of every pore!

#10 Kuai Lok Hian Restaurant by the jetty - We ate here 5 years ago! I still remember we ordered 7 dishes for 7 of us and it only cost us RM140.

#13 We arrived at low tide and we saw literally thousands of crabs on the exposed mud flats.

#18 Pulau Ketam is a car-free zone, so aside from walking, the only way to get around is by bicycles.

#51 Have you ever seen a crab that has one claw ridiculously larger than the other claw? We looked down as we walked along, and we saw a very colorful fiddler crab. Male fiddler crabs have a single giant claw and the vibrant colors (blue shell and orange claw) form a striking image, love it!

We were moseying around the village, and at 1.30pm we realized that if we didn't eat soon we'd collapse like overcooked crab right there on the concreted pavement. HERE's what we ate, and the dessert we had.

#72 Pulau Ketam Jetty

We took the second-last ferry of the day to return to Port Klang. Hmmm, I wonder what would happen if someone missed the last ferry.

By the way, Pulau Ketam is not the archetypal tropical paradise with swaying coconut palms and sandy beaches, so yeah forget your sexy bikini but don't forget the sunscreen!
